JOE Breet hit his first league century for Westbury on Saturday as they breezed to an eight-wicket win at home to Timsbury.

The Westbury captain ended a catalogue of near misses by scoring 109 and helping his side to a comfortable victory.

He said: "I had scored in the 90s numerous times for Westbury but before Saturday I had never managed to get a league century.

"It was a big relief to finally get past 100 but the victory was down to a good team effort not just one individual.

"Everyone played really well and I think the victory was definitely deserved."

After being put into bat, Timsbury lost an early wicket when Mattie Dix dismissed their captain for six.

The Westbury bowlers then had trouble with their lines as Timsbury settled down and started scoring steadily.

Phil Carroll, 3-34, and Martin Dolman, 3-44, shared the honours as Westbury contained their opponents to 207-9 off 45 overs.

In reply, Westbury rarely looked in trouble as Alex Hart and Breet smashed the Timsbury bowling around the wicket.

Hart was eventually dismissed for 51 with the score at 139 but Breet continued the destruction with Andy Elliott providing good support.

Breet was bowled for 109 but Westbury eased to the target without further loss.

Breet said: "We have two games left and if we win them, both we can still finish in second place in the league.

"I think we have learned a lot from this season and hopefully if we can get a run going now then we can build on it for next season.

"We seem to be growing in confidence and if we can learn from this season, I think we will be challenging to win the league next season."

Westbury entertain Nailsea tomorrow.
