BABIES getting their teeth into mobile phones are causing havoc for police.

Steve Coxhead, west Wiltshire police spokesman, said it is very common for silent calls to ring through on the emergency 999 number, and often the sound of a young child or baby is heard on the other end.

He said: "They think it's a rattle and we know with babies everything goes in the mouth and if you just bite in the right place three times there you go.

"But on a serious note it does raise concerns over the use of resources and it is avoidable with a little bit of care and attention."
