READING took on a spooky theme at Warminster Library on Wednesday when 13 youngsters got their creative juices flowing.

The group of six to nine-year-olds managed to pack stories, craft and poems into the hour-long session.

Library supervisor Nicola Harris said the event linked to a holiday reading programme, had proved a big hit with the young bookworms.

She said; "The feedback I got was very, very positive. The event was called Ghostly Goings-on and we were linking it with our Reading Rollercoaster programme.

"All the activities had a ghostly theme and they even made ghostly glove puppets. We sang a ghostly song and made stick puppets using white bin liners.

"Reading Rollercoaster is a national programme where the children are encouraged to continue with their reading into the summer holidays.

"The idea is that they read six books and when they've read each one they come in and tell us about it. They get a sticker for their folder and a certificate if they reach six books.

"The school with the most number of children taking part gets a prize and there is also a prize draw for all children who enter."

The summer holiday fun at Warminster Library continues tomorrow morning with a two-hour puppet-making session led by Sally Kelly.

On Wednesday librarian Richard Violet is hosting a Rollercoaster Reading Group where youngsters aged seven to 10 will be able to discuss the books they have been enjoying this summer.
