71808-10INTERNATIONAL storyteller Bob Hartman has a talent many parents would love.

The children's author has been keeping more than 100 youngsters quiet for hours as he reads his tales to them at the Dorcan churches' holiday club.

Mr Hartman has been at the club every day this week and held a book signing session yesterday.

Among Mr Hartman's most popular books are Time To Go, Hippo! and Cheer Up, Chicken!

He has written a variety of folk and biblical tales and holds workshops for adults who want to be better storytellers.

He has been writing since childhood and now has more than a dozen books in print.

The Rev Beth Gardener, organiser of the holiday club, which entertains children aged six to 11, said: "The children have been loving Bob's storytelling sessions.

"He really gets the children involved in each tale and it's great to watch their faces.

"They get so into it all and get very excited.

"He doesn't just read aloud he performs."

Mr Hartman says the secret of good storytelling is remembering what it was like to be a child, as well as using movement and unusual voices while reading.
