14296/1GAZETTE & HERALD: HOMEOWNER Andrew Saye is so desperate to climb the property ladder that he's raffling off his £110,000 home in a £5-a-ticket internet draw.

Office manager, Mr Saye, 32, has owned his one-bedroom house in Pewsham, Chippenham, for eight years. But rising house prices and high estate agency fees mean he cannot afford to move up and buy a two-bedroom home.

"It's a simple idea, but basically people enter the draw online, they answer a multiple choice question, and then they print off and fill in a form, which they send with a cheque for £5 to me," he said.

"The house has been valued at £110,000, but I have worked out I need to raise £160,000 to afford a two-bedroom house."

If the reserve price is not met, Mr Saye said he may extend it for a month after November 1, or will go ahead with the draw, with someone winning 80 per cent of the prize money, while he keeps 20 per cent to cover costs.

So far he has only had around 100 entries, but he's hopeful that the guide price will be met.

A former pupil of Sheldon School who now works for a lighting consultancy in Calne, Mr Saye has had his competition checked legally and has opened a bank account to hold the cheques sent with each entry.

"If the guide price is met, I will literally put all the entries in a hat and draw one out," he said.
