GAZETTE & HERALD: Corsham motorist Nathan Law has been jailed for 22 months after he deliberately rammed a police patrol car during a late night chase.

The 21-year-old, who at the time was banned from driving, also admitted taking revenge on a woman who had given evidence against him to police about a previous offence.

Law, who despite his age has almost 100 previous convictions, was convicted of criminal damage to a neighbour's car last December.

Noel Sweeney, prosecuting, told Swindon Crown Court that one of the witnesses in that case was a woman called Lucy McKellar, who lived close to Law in Calne.

He said that after the case, which saw Law put on a conditional discharge, she said that she had problems with Law.

At lunchtime on March 9 she said she was walking home from Calne town centre after shopping when she saw Law with his girlfriend Debbie Jarvis.

He said she was on North Street and wanted to avoid him but he came across to her and said 'I want to smash your face in' and raised a clenched fist above his head.

Despite being terrified she replied 'Go ahead' hoping it may put him off but instead he grabbed her by the throat, holding on for a couple of seconds.

She was pushing to get him off and at the same time his girlfriend shouted 'No, Nathan, no' and dragged him off.

As Miss Jarvis pulled her boyfriend away he turned and spat at his victim hitting her on the left shoulder.

The court heard that three weeks later just before 2am on March 30, a police patrol spotted the driver of a Vauxhall Nova was not wearing a seatbelt.

Officer tried to stop the vehicle on North End but it accelerated away on to North Street where the patrol came to a stop behind it.

"The Nova then reversed into the front of the police car ramming it," he told the court.

He said the Nova went forwards a short distance and again rammed the vehicle harder putting the officer in danger.

Law, of Orchard Road, Corsham, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, without insurance, failing to provide a specimen and to taking revenge on a witness.
