FORMER Swindon Town striker Mark Draycott has joined Chippenham on trial after playing in the American A league.

Draycott, 19, attended his first training session on Tuesday night after returning to England last week.

He has just finished the season in America with Wilmington FC in North Carolina. He said: "Last season was an amazing experience for me. I was top scorer at the club with nine goals from 19 games. I played against some top American internationals such as Ernie Stewart and Bobby Covey who now plays for Reading."

Steve White was made aware of his availability through Swindon youth coach Jimmy Fraser.

Draycott might not be in England for the whole season. He had a successful time in America and has been offered another contract starting in March.

He said: "I have a lot of time to think about that, I'm not sure what I will do yet. I just want to continue playing football and Steve White has given me that chance.

"I would like to play in America again. It is not as physical but very technical. We played in front of crowds of about 4,000 each week.

"I was not the only British player there. The assistant coach was ex-Motherwell player Adam Smith and I played with the sons of ex-Manchester City and Tottenham player Neil Mcnab. I was the youngest player there and they helped me to settle in.

"One of my best experiences was playing against Freddy Adu. He is only 14 years old and plays for the American national team. I also played against Ian Woan the ex-Swindon player."

Draycott is missing American Megan, who he met while playing for Wilmington. He said: "She is a dancer for the team. She is coming over in three weeks to see me."

The forward has not played any football for five weeks. He said: "I want get playing again and hopefully get a game for Chippenham. If I do decide not to go back to America then I would love to play here. The players are all friendly and I got on well at training."

White has been desperate to bring in a fourth striker since the season began but will not rush into a decision on Draycott.

He said: "The lad has to get up to match fitness. If he shows progress you might see him on the pitch in two or three weeks. He did very well at training."
