DROPPED skipper Wayne Thorne said he was devastated as he watched his side crash out of the FA Cup from the bench.

It is an experience Thorne does not want to go through again. He was dropped after being told by Steve White his performances had fallen below his usual high standards. Rene Regis took over as captain.

Thorne said: "It was frustrating being on the bench but you have to respect the manager's decision. I'm a team player and will be a substitute if I have to.

"I felt powerless as there was nothing I could do from the bench, it is up to the starting 11 to perform.

"I could barely watch towards the end of the game when they scored their two goals. It was hard to take when they equalised, it was even worse when they grabbed the winner, I could not believe what I was seeing.''

He was desperate to get on the pitch but was not called upon.

He said: "I wanted to get on the field and make an impact on the game.

"At 2-1 up some managers would play defensive and put a defender on. That is not the way Steve White plays, he would rather push on for a goal to kill the game off.

"He brought Gary on when the scores were 2-2. He shoved him up front to try and pinch a winner. We could have held on for a replay and brought them back to our place to give them another tough game. The manager is very attacking minded, that is the way Chippenham play football."

The defender is itching to get back in the side for the game at Solihull on Saturday.

He said: "I will train hard and hope that I get selected for the next game, I'm dying to get back on the field and help the team get out of this bad run. I'm sure my form will return to me soon."
