Salisbury Hospice fundraising co-ordinator John Lakeman shows off its Christmas card, featuring a picture by Journal chief photographer Roger Elliott, on the hospice's stand at Expo 2004. DA6464P16THERE was only one charity represented at Expo and it was one very dear to south Wiltshire people's hearts.

Salisbury Hospice, represented by fundraising co-ordinator John Lakeman and volunteer fundraisers Lucy and Robert Dalrymple, was promoting its Christmas cards and calendars.

Mr Lakeman said Salisbury people were always so supportive of the hospice that, in return, the hospice liked to support things that were going on in Salisbury, such as Expo.

He said that earlier in the year, Salisbury Newspapers' publisher Bill Browne had offered a picture of Salisbury Cathedral in the snow, taken by chief photographer Roger Elliott, as a design for a Christmas card to be sold in aid of the hospice.

"I gratefully accepted," Mr Lakeman said.

"We sent out mail order forms to our supporters and had so many people wanting the cards, we ran out after 5,000 and have had to have another 3,000 done.

"We also have calendars featuring photographs by the Journal's former chief photographer, Henry Wills."

The cards and calendars are now available at the Journal office, Chas H Baker, Wiltshire Linen and Brian Leonard.
