POTENTIAL snooker stars of the future were cueing up in Salisbury at the weekend for their first ranking competition of the season.
The Junior Cuestars tournament is run through a series of competitive events for eight to 21-year-olds, held at Salisbury Snooker Club on the first Saturday of each month.
Winner of the main tournament was last season's overall champion, Mark Green, while the plate competition, for players who lost their first round match, was won by Adam Guyatt.
The Tollgate Road club is one of more than 20 across the south of England that stage the Cuestars events, which culminate in invitational tournaments in May and June.
On non-competition weeks there are Saturday sessions at the club for members to help them learn the basics, including regular training from ex-professionals.
Alan Green, who helps organise the events, said: "It gives them a good introduction to everything to do with the game, and a chance to experience competition.
"The difference between professionals and club players often just comes down to mental attitude, and playing tournaments at a young age can help."
New members are welcome at the sessions which are held between 10.30am and 12.30pm.
