The Crimestopper's phone line for people wishing to report anonymous information on criminal activities, will be going 24 hours a day from this Sunday.

The move is part of Wiltshire Crimestopper's on-going campaign to stamp out crime.

The facility, which was launched in Wiltshire in 1996, will enable anonymous callers to provide information at any time of the day or night, by dialling the freephone Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.

Every call made is invaluable - the information provided anonymously helps to solve existing investigations and can also highlight a crime that may not be known to the police.

Malcolm Keene, chairman of Crimestoppers said: "I am extremely pleased that Wiltshire now has this facility. Being available to take calls made to Crimestoppers 24 hours a day is paramount to what we the volunteers on Crimestoppers Board are trying to achieve - getting the phones to ring.

"We are able to raise the awareness of what Crimestoppers is all about, but more importantly it is getting the public to take that initial step and call us with information. We will now have the confidence that calls will be answered 24 hours a day, seven days a week."

Crimestoppers is an independent UK-wide charity and has offices in 31 regions throughout England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland and the Channel Islands.

It regularly holds fundraising events, its most recent success being a Family Fun Day at Bowood Country House near Calne with over 17,000 people attending.

The next fundraising event will be held at the Royal Courts of Justice, in London on Wednesday November 17.
