PERHAPS the Devizes squad should take up mountaineering, because that's what they seem to want to do.

According to frustrated manager Mark Godley, his team must stop giving themselves a mountain to climb if they want to win games after another spirited second half effort against top of the table Bristol Manor Farm.

With the scores locked, Bristol Manor stole the game on 62 minutes and withstood heavy pressure from Devizes to take the points.

Godley was pleased with the second half performance but said his team need to play well for 90 minutes.

He said: "We dominated for 60 minutes, that was no good today. We need to start the game better because we are getting nothing for our second half endeavours."

Bristol took the lead with their first attack in the second minute. A long throw came in from the right, their striker nipped in and smacked the ball past keeper Andy King.

Devizes had a chance to equalise on 10 minutes when striker Dave Lloyd ran down the right and shot from an angle but the ball flew wide.

The home side went further ahead on 20 minutes when they caught Devizes on the break. Their striker was given yards of space and had time to easily fire home from just inside the box.

That goal sparked life into Devizes, and they pulled got one back on 35 minutes. Captain Brad Newman released Lloyd down the right flank. He crossed to striker Simon Price who drilled the ball past the keeper from 12 yards.

The equaliser came in astonishing fashion on the hour mark. The ball came to Lloyd who had his back to goal. He turned his defender and unleashed a terrific strike into the bottom corner.

The celebrations were cut short as Bristol regained the lead just two minutes later when Devizes gave away a needless free kick in a dangerous position on the left side of the box. The ball was crossed in and a Bristol midfielder connected with a powerful header that sent the ball past King.

Devizes host Barnstable on Saturday and kick off at 1pm.
