NEW Highworth signing Jamie Mills made a winning start against the club from which he joined. The midfielder was instrumental in the 2-0 Premier Division win over Wantage just days after leaving the Oxfordshire outfit.

He missed a good early chance but it did not prove costly thanks to a pair of fine second-half goals.

Wayne Cleverley opened the scoring on 70 minutes with a fabulous chip from well outside the area.

Shaun Terry added a late second with another strike from distance.

Manager John Fisher thought his side were worthy winners despite a sloppy start. "We were very poor first half," he said. "It was one of the worst performances I've seen.

"Due respect to Wantage they pinned us back for long periods. But we came out a lot better second half and I think we shaded it in the end."

Mills should be joined by brother JP this week after the former Chippenham Town midfielder was released by Wantage.

Fisher hopes to conclude a deal after losing Matt Jack to Didcot.

An 85th-minute goal from Paul Bough secured Ardley only their second win of the year against a disappointing Wootton Bassett in Division One .

Bassett dropped more points in a game, which, on paper, they should have won.

Neither team managed to create clear-cut opportunities in a sloppy opening half and the score was deadlocked going into the break.

The second half was equally poor but Ardley finally undid Bassett as a long ball over the top caught out the defence and Bough struck from eight yards as keeper Lee Flynn failed to close him down.

Elsewhere, a Phil Corcoran double earned Fairford a 2-1 win at Chipping Norton.

In Divison One West Malmesbury Vics were beaten 3-1 at home by high-flying Kidlington.

The hosts started brightly with James Higgs putting them ahead but it proved to be a false dawn.

Purton lost by the same score against leaders Tytherington Rocks.

Shrivenham's title hopes took a knock as they were held to a 0-0 draw at home by Harrow Hill, while Cirencester United lost 1-0 at Easington.
