GAZETTE & HERALD: Calne Town Council is offering the chance for someone to be £1,000 better off this Christmas.

To raise money for the Calne Christmas Celebration the council is selling raffle tickets for £1 each in an attempt to make this year's event the most spectacular yet.

Community Development Officer Mark Wilkins said: "We had 3,500 to 4,000 people last year and we need to find ways to fund it.

"Every bit of profit is to be put back into the event and you could get £1,000.

"We had reindeer and a river of light last year and we want it back."

Mw Wilkins said the council were working with a group called Caiac to run lantern workshops for the river of light and were also hoping to have an artist coming to help.

He said: "All the money is coming back to the Calne community, so buying a ticket is your way of supporting the local community.

"We are hoping there will be an even bigger lantern parade than last year when we had 300 lanterns."

Tickets are currently available from Bank House in The Strand.
