THE Harrow restaurant at Little Bedwyn and the Barge pub at Honeystreet have both won top awards.

The Harrow carried off a top prize in a leading international competition, the Trophee Gosset Celebris 2004, run by champagne makers Gosset to find the restaurant with the best champagne selection.

The Barge won the InnSpired group pub cellar keeping contest and won a place in the national finals.

The Harrow is run by Roger and Sue Jones and stocks more than 300 varieties of champagne, some of those in a number of different vintages.

The popular Little Bedwyn restaurant was runner-up and received a framed certificate and presentation box containing Gosset Celebris 1995 and Gosset Celebris Ros 1998.

Mr and Mrs Jones took over the former village pub five years ago.

Meanwhile The Barge at Honeystreet, run by Adrian and June Potts, has gone through to the final stage of a national pub cellar competition.

The Pewsey Vale pub, popular with the crop circle researchers, serves up the best pint in the region, according to the competition run by tenanted pub company InnSpired.

The Barge beat many other pubs in the region winning a total of £150 in prize money and won through to the national finals of the competition

The competition was based on cellar management and, ultimately, the quality of the beer at the pump.

The cellar competition is part of a wider standards competition that is being run this year by InnSpired Pubs. All 1,100 of its licensees have entered the competition, which features specialist categories such as cellar, and flowers and gardens.

Peter Brook, chief executive of InnSpired, said: "The Barge Inn is a great venue for people to relax, socialise and enjoy a nice pint."

Mr Potts said he was delighted to have come top in the region. He said: "The Barge Inn is an 18th century stone tavern located alongside a picturesque canal. The remote location appeals to many people who make a great deal of effort to visit our pub.

"Myself, June and my bar manager Alan Bawery take a lot of pride in providing customers with good quality beer and a pleasant environment to enjoy it in."
