FORMER TV presenter David Vine hosted a pub quiz that helped raise a total of more than £6,000 for the Jeans 4 Genes charity in Ramsbury on Friday.

The former BBC snooker and skiing front man was questionmaster for the quiz in the Bell Inn in Ramsbury.

It was one of a number of events in the popular pub in The Square that included a charity auction and raffle.

The presenter of TV antiques auction Flog It, Paul Martin, of Marlborough, drew the raffle prizes.

A number of generous donations were received including one of £130 raised by pupils at the village school, in return for being allowed to wear jeans to school for a day.

The evening was organised by Mr Vine's daughter Catherine Howie, who lives locally and has run similar events for several years at The Bell. Mrs Howie said: "I am pleased to say it was packed again and everyone had a super evening."

Mrs Howie thanked the many people who donated goods for the auction including local businesses and her famous father who came up with tickets for some sports events including snooker championships.

The Jeans 4 Genes charity funds research into children's disorders including leukaemia, muscular dystrophy and cystic fibrosis.
