TURNERS Tackle and Bait kept up their wonderful run on the River Thames when they won the first round of the Angling Times League (Upper Thames Division) with a runaway 104 points. They also had three anglers out of the top five.

No stranger to the Thames, Clanfield AC secretary Doug Foreshew found a friendly gap behind some far bank trees to take a five-chub catch using a feeder with hemp and caster and weighed in 17lb 10oz from a swim upstream in the second field at Radcot.

The best mixed bag of fish, roach and perch was taken by Steve Withey of Thatcham AC who used pole tactics with Red Mag for 15lb 2oz.

Third was Paul Barnfield of Lobbys Black with the best all-roach catch of 4lb 11oz, ahead of Graham Godwin (Turners T/B) 13lb and Martin Avons (11-11-0).
