On reading the article in the Gazette on September 30 that Devizes Town Council is concerned a committee could bring about the cloning of Devizes against its wishes, they are right to be concerned.

A bespoke committee, formed in Devizes, as a part of the 'Coastal and Market Town Initiative' visually changed the name of part of the parish of Bishop's Cannings with the imposition of the 'Welcome to

Devizes' signs placed well within it, against the wishes of the people of the parish and its parish council. A recent survey return showed that 100 per cent of residents wished that Bishop's Cannings parish retain its separate area identity.

It would appear, therefore, that this wish is of no interest to a committee, even though the Government asks that rural communities be respected and their identities preserved. So be careful Devizes Town Council, you could also lose your individuality in one way or another!
