CORSHAM Rugby Club maintained their 100 per cent start to the season with both their first and second string sides winning again on the weekend.

Corsham firsts dispatched Hungerford 83-0 in a one-sided league encounter, and with the second grade victory, it's nine wins from nine full outings for the club this season.

For the first team, Saturday's league road trip proved something of a mis-match. Due to their own over-eagerness, and too much passing at times hampering their progress, it took a good 20 minutes before left wing Marc Rose darted over for the first score.

The home side tried to stem the tide but Corsham forged to a 34-0 lead at the break and eventually ran away with proceedings in the second half, against a tiring defence.

Among the numerous try-scorers were hooker Tim Russell, in his first full game for the first team this season, Chris James, Nick Denham, Rich Cartwright, Rob Godwin and Tim Minty, with fly-half Haydn Brockhurst kicking the balance of points.

The firsts host Pewsey Vale in league action on Saturday.

Corsham's second string maintained their wonderful start to the season with a fifth successive victory, this time over opposition from Bath.

Led again by stand-in captain Bryan Slade, Corsham led 11-0 at the break courtesy of a try and two penalties from Denzil Brockhurst.

The Bath side responded with an unconverted second-half try, but the home side's defensive work, particularly that of centre Sean Lynch, saw them preserve their perfect start.

The club will be looking to stretch their winning run into double figures this weekend, and the seconds visit Oldfield to take on their third grade outfit in the Merit Table.
