Chippenham came back to form with a very satisfying win away from home over St Ivel Barbarians.

It was St Ivel who opened the scoring in the first minute, kicking a penalty after Chippenham were caught offside in the centres.

But after five minutes a line-out was tidied up by flanker Misimisi. Driving forward, the ruck was won by Chippenham, and their backs were clinical. The move was finished off by Stokes and conversion kicked by scrum-half Andy Williamson.

A penalty was added by Williamson after an infringement in a driving maul from Chippenham's forwards and after 22 minutes, the illusive half made a break from the base of a ruck releasing centre Rupert Crockett. He broke a hole in the St Ivel defence, releasing Misimisi, who went over to score. Williamson again added the extras.

Five minutes later, fly-half Grant Trewartha charged down a kick from the base of a ruck, and gathered the ball. He out-paced the waiting St Ivel defence and scored a great individual try from 50 metres out.

On the half-hour, Chippenham's forwards exchanged passes well in great support play and advanced to within five metres of the try line, drawing another penalty and subsequent three points.

Just three minutes later, Stokes went on a dummy switch and captain Crockett used good feet to get through. He drew the St Ivel winger and released winger Alex Gibbon who went over for the score. Williamson kicked the conversion from touch.

Chippenham had opened a 3-32 lead at the half-time break and the second half proved to be a frustrating affair with neither team allowed to play any flowing rugby.

St Ivel added a penalty to the score, and after 20 minutes, they finally scored their opening try from a driving maul.

Chippenham came back five minutes later as full-back Alex Fereday finished well from the half-way line and Williamson again added the penalty.

Chippenham 3rd 8 Frome 2nd 5

On a windy Saturday afternoon, Chippenham started strongly, pushing Frome back into their own half for the first quarter, with the forwards and backs coming close to scoring.

Frome held out but gave away three points conceded a penalty, converted by Danny Burke.

Chippenham then went to sleep and Frome took advantage, winning all line-out and scrum ball, but strong defence prevented them from scoring. Injuries to two key Chippenham players, fly-half Danny Burke and centre, Chris Cooke added to the misery.

It was no surprise that Chippenham conceded a try. Frome ran through the defence to score and give them a 3-5 lead at the half-time break.

A re-organisation during the break saw Chippenham come out strongly for the second half with several penetrating runs at the Frome defence lead by number eight Rob Berryman and centre James Cook.

Late on a penalty was conceded by Frome five metres out and Chippenham forced a scrum. Scrum-half Alun Jones passed the ball to James Cook from the set piece, and he went over to score.
