With Bournemouth losing, Wootton Bassett missed their opportunity to top the league when they narrowly lost at home 11-10 to Sherborne.

Bassett went in front when with a well-struck penalty from Jack Ricketts.

Minutes later Sherborne matched that, but Bassett started to repeat the positive rugby they had played in previous matches.

Despite all the possession, they managed just one try from hooker Taff Lock after a driving maul.

Ricketts added the extras and the home side held on to their advantage until the second half.

Both sides tightened up their defences after the break, but a slight lapse in the Bassett line let the visitors in for an unconverted try to make it 10-5 with 20 minutes left.

Sherborne then added a second score, rolling over through the forward from a penalty.

Bassett had the chance to snatch the game in the dying minutes but the penalty attempt drifted wide. Sherborne duly took over at the top of the league.
