14208/2GAZETTE & HERALD: CHILDREN at Frogwell School in Chippenham celebrated World Language Day with a festival of words and flavours from France, Italy and Wales.

French, Italian, Welsh and sign language were the subjects of the day.

Youngsters learning French tucked into a yummy continental breakfast of croissants and hot chocolate, classes learning Italian enjoyed a snack of olives and ciabatta bread and those attempting Welsh enjoyed Welsh cakes.

A visitor from the Royal National Institute for the Deaf gave lessons in sign language.

Pupils learned some basic words in the various languages, such as hello and goodbye, and had discussions about aspects of the culture.

Teacher Sophie Grigsby set up the event, which is part of a move towards introducing language teaching in primary schools.
