I APPLAUD the council's move to sell the public paper-thin plastic sacks, and the promise to take away garden waste, to be recycled. And all this for the cost of only £1 per sack.

It seems almost generous, except that every time I put out my official green bags on the collection day they stand on the pavement for ever. Unless I phone at my own cost the appropriate number, to be asked if the sacks are the official ones and told "well they should have been collected but we will look into it''.

Is the council ripping the public off? Or are the workforce employed to do the collecting not bothering to do the rounds?
