Wootton Bassett went down to their second defeat in Southern Counties South, losing out 25-13 at fellow Wiltshire side Trowbridge.

Bassett's pack secured plenty of set piece possession in the early exchanges, but they were never really allowed to convert this into a decent scoreline by a determined home side.

Trowbridge, in fact, took a 12-8 lead at the break courtesy of two tries and a conversion.

Bassett's first-half points came through a try from wing Ben Bailey and a penalty from full-back Lee Davies.

The second period was played much like the first and Trowbridge managed to score two more unconverted tries and a penalty before Bassett managed to cross the line again.

Their second consolation score came in the 70th minute, prop Robin Smith touching down after an excellent driving run.

This late try sparked Wootton Bassett but their efforts were never going to be enough against a resolute home side, who held on until the final whistle.

Devizes' troubles continued as they slipped to a fifth successive defeat.

Playing away to newly promoted Sherborne, the Saddlebacks eventually went down 26-6 and they remain one off the bottom, without a league win to their name.
