SHRIVENHAM finally began to fulfil their obvious potential and sneak right into title contention on Saturday.

Alan Dyton's men secured a vital 2-0 win at Tytherington Rocks to move level on points with the previously unbeaten leaders of Division One West.

And for the first time this term, Dyton was satisfied with an impressive display.

"We haven't really played this season like the way I know we can until Saturday," he said.

"For the first time we really did the business. Everything clicked into place and the performance was excellent against a very good side.

"Tytherington are not top for nothing and I expect them to be there or thereabouts come the end of the season.

"But our commitment and discipline was spot on."

Dyton travelled with a game plan, partially forced by the absence of top scorer Alex Green.

Steve Avenall played as a lone striker as the Shrivvy boss packed the midfield.

The ploy duly frustrated the hosts and with the pace of Michael Silvanus and Liam Thompson, the away side always posed problems on the break.

Silvanus was instrumental in the first.

He strode down the flank midway through the first period before cutting the ball back to Avenall to score.

The hosts applied plenty of pressure after the interval, but Shrivenham remained solid at the back and Avenall pounced at the other end again to seal the win with 15 minutes to go after Nathan Holt had committed the home goalkeeper.

The two sides are now neck and neck at the top of the table on 23 points.

Kidlington are in third with the same total after a 2-1 win over Cheltenham Saracens.

Elsewhere in Division One West, Cirencester United drew 1-1 at home to Hook Norton.

Fairford recorded their fourth Premier Division win of the season 2-1 against Henley thanks to goals from Phil Corcoran and John Devoille at Cinder Lane.

Fairford took the lead early in the second half.

Kevin Coles' shot was only parried and Corcoran stuck away the rebound for his 10th goal of the season.

On 80 minutes the visitors drew level. Michael Turner found his way into the home box and struck a low shot into the bottom corner.

Fairford eventually regained the lead on 85 minutes thanks to the perseverance of Devoille.

After seeing his initial shot parried by the keeper, the midfielder calmly side-footed the winner.

IN the Screwfix League, Devizes lost 2-1 at home to Barnstaple.
