I feel that I must have a right to reply to the personal attack by Coun Lister.
Yes, I was a Conservative for a while but soon realised the error of my ways. As a pensioner, a taxpayer and a local resident I did not like what they stood for.
I make no apologies for saying goodbye to them.
The local tax rises that Coun Lister refers to have taken place while I have not been a councillor. I was and am opposed to any large increases in taxation.
The last tax increase he refers to of 7.3 per cent was not supported by me.
However, neither was the 6.5 per cent increase suggested by the Tories with large cuts in services.
On the subject of the football stadium, I do not say that the council must subsidise Swindon Town Football Club.
If you read my original letter with a little more care you will see that I suggested providing land at a commercial rate.
I stand by what I said, that all councillors have a collective responsibility to the people of Swindon. Blaming the other party is no longer an option.
