POTTERNE Youth Club is back up and running. The club, in Silver Street, was closed for about 18 months due to a lack of volunteers.

A new committee was formed earlier this year and, after several months of fund raising and refurbishment, the club has reopened.

It operates on Monday nights from 6.30pm to 7.30pm for five to ten-year-olds and from 7.45pm to 9.15pm for 11 to 16-year-olds.

The club has a chill-out room containing a computer, a television and PlayStation. There is also a pool table, lots of board games and craft materials. A tuck shop provides refreshments and snacks.

Club leader Sandra Cutler said: "We have got 62 members already which is great. The youngsters are impressed with the facilities."

More than 70 youngsters recently went along to an open day at the club which raised £135 towards funds.

The club was officially opened by Anthony Johnson, whose late mother Sharon used to run the club. A plaque in her memory is inside.

The club committee would like to villagers who donated money and items for the club plus organisations who helped towards the reopening of the club.

These are Gaigers, Jewsons, APT Electricals, Ginghams, Potterne Primary School, Potterne Panto Group, Kennet Furniture Exchange, Devizes Snooker Club and the VW Volkswagon Centre of Bromham.
