ANDY KING is looking to strengthen his striking options and provide the final push necessary to ensure the campaign ends in a blaze of glory.

Goals from Sam Parkin are all but guaranteed in the manager's eyes and although he is not unhappy with Jamie Slabber's contribution King would like to bolster his squad from a position of strength.

He hopes the helping hand on the goals front won't be required but he feels it is a case of 'be prepared'.

King wants success, his players want success and the manager knows his board of directors would relish the season ending with a bang rather than a whimper.

The Town boss said: "I'm still searching for another striker, not in the sense that the ones I have are doing badly.

"Jamie Slabber has come in and made a difference while I have optimism about Rory Fallon but I need guaranteed goals to give us that final push, to give us a helping hand.

"We might not need one though."

The manager joked that he hadn't sought permission from his board to pursue a loan at this stage as it would spoil his fun.

He said: "I haven't asked them. I normally go down the route of finding them and then asking.

"What's the point of spoiling all the fun of looking and speaking to these illustrious managers?"

On a serious note King is confident his board realise the team is in with a good shout of ending the campaign in a play-off spot.

He said: "I think the directors realise that we are on the edge of it.

"A run to the end of the season will keep the fans around, hopefully keep the gates up and maybe get them further up which is money in the club's pocket of course.

"I know they want us to succeed.

"A new stadium is being talked about and being planned.

"Being in a division higher would be a massive thing going into a new stadium.

"We all want it and they (the board) realise we've given ourselves a fighting chance and would like to see the season go out in a blaze of glory rather than us fading away into 10th place."

Tomorrow's trip to Torquay United gives Town the opportunity to climb into the top six for the first time since early September.

King looks around the division and feels Town's current run of results makes them one of, if not the form side.

He said: "There's no-one putting a sustained run together. Our three wins is as good a run as anyone else has had.

"We're probably the in form team in February and we have to keep it going.

"The players look sharp, I have threats for positions with Stefani Miglioranzi, Brian Howard, Jerel Ifil and Rory Fallon on the bench for the last game and the sniff of success is keeping them going as they know what a wonderful thing it was last year.

"The main thing is keeping ourselves among it.

"We want to be in the dogfight for the play-offs up to the last game. I'd take same situation as last year, needing a point in the last game of the season to clinch it."

King doesn't believe there is a dramatic reason for the upturn though.

He said: "Goals have come at the right time, we've taken leads, defended better and there's growing confidence. "There's a step about people that success brings."
