THE shortlist has been announced for the Greater Western rail franchise the amalgamation of the Great Western, Great Western Link and Wessex Trains franchise due to come into effect in a year's time.
The three firms bidding to run the services, which include all trains passing through Swindon, are First Group, National Express and Stagecoach.
First Great Western, a First Group subsidiary company based in Swindon, currently runs the routes.
Alison Forster, MD of First Great Western and First Great Western Link, said: "We are very pleased and look forward to working on proposals to enhance the journey experience for both our current customers and those within the wider franchise area."
