WITNESSES are being asked to contact police about a fight in the town centre.

A man and woman who were out together on Friday night became involved in an altercation with three males.

The three men called the police claiming they had been injured. Police arrested the man and woman, and they have now been released on bail.

The three claim they were cut by a key ring the man was carrying.

But the man and woman claim they were the victims.

Police are appealing for witnesses who saw the two groups arguing in the Manchester Road area around 2.30am on Saturday.

DS Don Stirton, of Swindon CID, said: "The parties did not know each other. Both groups are saying the other was responsible.

"We are appealing for witnesses to come forward so we can piece together what happened."

Officers are also studying CCTV footage.

The man in the couple was black, 5ft 8in and in his 40s. He wore a black leather jacket and baseball cap. The woman was 34, white, 5ft 10in and wore a light coloured top.

The three men were all white and in their early 30s.
