THE County and Swindon Borough councils propose to go ahead with building the new Wiltshire and Swindon Record Office on a proven toxic waste dump in Chippenham.

Because of the noise from the main Bristol-London main line only metres from the building, expensive measures are to be taken which would raise still further the already very high air conditioning running costs.

The county council has also been told because of the noise from freight trains at evenings and weekends, the record office can only be used in normal weekday office hours.

This means a reduction in the service to record office users.

Because of the potential fires from the electrical substation, and from train derailments, the building has to be built to withstand such blasts.

The construction is not going to come cheap and it's all because the North Wiltshire clique who control the County Council Cabinet are set on moving the record office to Chippenham at all costs.

And who will bear these costs? Wiltshire and Swindon tax payers.
