Jackie Webber of West Swindon Asda with the ring Ref: 76789-56CHARLES and Camilla fever has not exactly been evident in Swindon during the countdown to the royal wedding.

But copies of Camilla's engagement ring have been selling out in a West Swindon supermarket.

Asda have not been able to get their hands on enough of the art deco sterling silver rings, retailing at £19.

Only 2,500 of the rings are being made and store manager Jeremy Kinsey believes they are being bought as investments.

He said: 'Every one we have had in we have sold. But I think it is more a case of speculative purchasing, than people actually wanting the product for themselves.'

Jackie Webber, responsible for jewellery at the store, said: "We've had loads of people commenting on how nice the ring is, so I'm not surprised it's so popular.

"But people don't care what size it is, as they want it as an investment."

Mr Kinsey said: "People have been ringing up asking us how many we've got. Some have said they want to put them on ebay."

And sure enough, the Adver can confirm that the rings have already attracted bids of £30 on the auction website. The website features a number of items commemorating the royal nuptials.Wedding mugs have attracted bids of £6.50 but perhaps there is significance in the fact that some rather disrespectful spoof mugs have found bids twice as high.

Later in the week the store will be selling 'photo cakes' with a picture of the soon-to-be-weds printed on the icing.

But it's too soon to tell whether they will sell like hot cakes.
