Second Division Spencer Sports became the first recipients of the new-look Westernsport Trophies-sponsored WG Parr Trophy, after they defeated Premier Division opposition Trowbridge Harriers in a penalty shoot out.

Played in front of a healthy crowd of almost 200 people Harriers started the game as slight favourites, but never lived up to the tag as Andy Cooper's team became the first team from the top flight to lose out in a final against a side from a lower division.

After a goalless first half Harriers gained the upper hand when Michael Hillier rose unchallenged to head home John Baker's cross past the advancing Nick Evans on the hour.

Only a string of outstanding saves from Harriers man of the match keeper Mark Binns kept them in the game, but, with time running out, Spencer found a way past the impressive Binns, who could do nothing to keep out Paul Eames mistimed shot that crept through a crowd of players and into the net.

After a fruitless period of extra time the match went to penalties and successful kicks from Dan King, Barry Holloway, James Taylor and Ralph Plummer earned Spencer a 4-2 verdict after John Hubbard's kick superbly saved by keeper Evans and John Baker blasted his effort high over the bar.

West Lavington (Sunday)'s hopes of claiming their first ever Premiership title looks to be slipping away after they dropped another vital point in their quest for glory after they could only manage a dire 0-0 stalemate with Dog & Fox Ashley.

Sherston Town's first victory in six outings put a massive dent in Box Rovers' dreams of finishing in pole position.

Rovers only had themselves to blame for the defeat as they played the whole game with nine players and unlike a couple of weeks ago when they beat Bradford News with just eight men they were unable to repeat that success and suffered a 5-3 loss. Antony Vizard (2), Ben Wright, Marc Neale and Ed Wilkins scored for Sherston. Richard Newman (2) and Stuart Hymes replied for Rovers, who had taken an early lead and pulled the score back to 3-4 before losing out.

A great defensive performance from Corsham Cricket Club was the major factor in their 2-0 victory over Maud Heath Sports, but their goal scoring hero was Paul Southway who netted both of the Cricketers goals. Southway should have had a hat-trick but somehow he headed over from close range when it looked easier to score.

Biddestone Social were 2-0 up in their match against Bradford News after only eight minutes with both goals coming courtesy of Matt Pratley, and it was looking if Biddestone were about to embark on a goal fest.

It wasn't to be as the Newsmen hit back through Russell Francis, who hit the target after collecting an excellent ball from Jason Povey.

Rob Pocock drove home from 18 yards in the 34th minutes to give Biddestone a 3-1 advantage and that was how it stayed.
