REFERENCE Real Issue (EA letters, Monday, March 28). As with many other pensioners I believe we could have a better deal, but to compare either Labour or Tory with the violence of today beggars belief.

Only a fool would compare Brown or Letwin with the thugs that put a brick into that poor man's head or stabbed a man for no reason, as reported in last week's Advertiser.

To come home to find your house ransacked or to be kept talking at the front door while someone enters the house at the back is enough to frighten an older person to death.

It will take more than a few statistics to prove it is safe to venture out at night. Anyone can juggle statistics to suit their needs, I did it when I worked in an office.

Although one child knocked down is one too many, I wonder what percentage ran into the road without looking? I have seen a child run into a pram on the pavement because they were not looking where they were going, shall we ban prams too?
