GAZETTE & HERALD: A 28-year-OLD mother-of-four from Corsham has pleaded guilty to assaulting the woman who was having an affair with her husband.

Prosecutor Michelle Hewitt told North Wiltshire Magistrates in Chippenham on Thursday how Clair Throupe, of Lypiatt Road, Corsham, attacked Lisa Davies in front of the victim's two-year-old son on January 2 this year.

She said Throupe saw Miss Davies outside a telephone box and started shouting at her: "What's this I hear about you having an affair with my husband?''

The defendant grabbed Miss Davies by the hair and punched her in the face several times.

Screaming and shouting for the violence to stop, Miss Davies's two-year-old son stepped in and told Throupe to get off his mum

The fight ended with Throupe picking up the victim's handbag and throwing it to the ground.

As a result of her injuries Ms Davies was left with two chipped upper front teeth, her left tooth cap knocked off and a swollen leg,

Miss Hewitt added that Throupe later admitted: "I attacked her. She deserved everything she got."

When questioned by police Throupe admitted assaulting Miss Davies and was arrested a week after the offence.

Sam Arif, defending, said there was provocation for the attack because Miss Davies flaunted the fact she had an affair with Throupe's husband.

Miss Arif explained that at the time Throupe and her husband were sending mobile phone text messages in an attempt to get their marriage back on track.

She said the defendant's daughter had been told by Miss Davies she would become her step-mum and this made Throupe very upset.

Matters came to a head when Miss Davies is alleged to have said she would marry the defendant's husband. At this point there was an assault, said Miss Arif.

She added Throupe was very embarrassed about the assault on Miss Davies.

She said she was suffering from post-natal depression at the time.

Miss Arif said: "Throupe lost her temper. She realises it was not the right thing to do, but she is of pervious good character.

Robin Salmon, chairman of the magistrates said the bench accepted that Throupe was suffering from post-natal depression and Miss Davies was having an affair with the defendant's husband.

Mr Salmon adjourned the case to allow probation officers to prepare a report on Throupe.

The defendant was bailed until April 21 at 10.45am.
