CONVICTED burglar Nigel Stickley stole two video games from a house after he saw the householder leave, a court heard.

Stickley, 22, of Eastleigh Road, Devizes admitted burgling the house in Stokes Close, Devizes, on March 15, stealing a PlayStation 2 game worth £5.99.

Rob Welling, prosecuting, told Devizes Magistrates Court on Tuesday: "The complainant left her home address to go to work in the morning. Around lunchtime that day having seen her leave the premises and seeing she had not closed the front door properly, the defendant jumped over the garden fence, causing slight damage, and entered the premises without causing any further damage.

"A tidy search was made inside and two DVD games were stolen of a relatively low value.

"The defendant was caught because he was seen committing the offence by a neighbour and was arrested later that day."

Stickley made a full admission to the police. He also pleaded guilty to possessing 1.2 grams of cannabis resin at the time of the arrest.

Mr Welling said this was the second burglary Stickley had committed. The previous one was in July 2002 when he stole a gold necklace from the bedroom of a teenage girl in Estcourt Road, Devizes, for which he was sentenced to do 100 hours community service.

The magistrates decided to send Stickley for sentence at Salisbury Crown Court. Magistrate Georgina Dalton said: "If there was a breach of any sentence imposed by this court our sentencing powers would not be sufficient. In the first burglary you did breach the community sentence quite quickly."
