THOSE readers who have been following the misdemeanours of our town council I am sure will want to congratulate the councillor who made the unpleasant decision to bring out into the open the latest maladministration.

Councillors often have to make difficult decisions, often putting their head on the block.

This recent situation of going against their own standing orders and spending £8,280 unnecessarily beggars belief. Any schoolboy could calculate that Mr Waite's offer to produce 2,000 brochures works out at £4.14 each if all were sold (which they weren't) and would make a loss of £3,200.

Councillors were quick to apologise at the cost of the external auditor's report but if it stops this kind of maladministration it is worth every penny. It may even help to restore electors' faith in local government.
