According to the booklet 'How your council tax is spent' accompanying this year's council tax bill, in 2005/06 Marlborough Town Council expects to spend £119,003 on unexplained 'administration'.
This represents 38 per cent of the overall budget, and an amazing 77 per cent of the entire funding raised from council tax.
I expect there is a plausible justification for the expenditure, but none is offered the available space is instead used to crow about the 2004 Charter celebrations. Less self-congratulation and more transparency, please.
