NORTH BERKS: Coleshill United won the War Memorial Cup for the first time in their history, after a 3-1 victory over a battling Didcot Casuals side at Alfredian Park, Wantage.

Higher division Coleshill dominated possession, but they carved few real chances until they took the lead in the 34th minute through Martin Francis at close range.

Soon afterwards a penalty was awarded for a foul on Christian Ayres and Shane Blake powered the ball into the bottom corner.

Blake skewed two reasonable chances wide at the start of the second half but then Didcot pulled a goal back through Wayne Jacks' free kick, which sailed over Coleshill's tall keeper Andy Chester and bounced up into the roof of the net.

Ayres should have restored the two-goal advantage but lifted the ball over the bar when clean through and unchallenged.

Didcot had a goal disallowed for offside and Danny McGibbon struck a Coleshill post but Danny Ward was unlucky for Coleshill as his lob bounced and went over the bar.

Ayres clinched the cup with a diving header five minutes from time, although Jacks headed against the crossbar and Eddy Yarker struck the post with the follow-up.

In the league, Faringdon Town blew their last chance of Division 1 title glory as they went down 3-2 to Grove Rangers, who avoided relegation with the win. Tom Stone and Robert Owen scored for Faringdon.

Leaders Drayton were held to a 0-0 draw by 10-man Ardington & Lockinge, with Danny Curran missing a penalty.

Simon Bunce made two fine saves to keep out Curran in the first half but when Steve Domain was dismissed for keeping the ball out of goal with his hand, Curran blazed the kick high into the tree behind the goal.

Bunce made another fine stop from Dean Godwin's header and now Drayton must wait to see if they need points from their final game next Saturday against Harwell International.

Harwell International made it eight consecutive wins after beating Charity Shield finalists Marcham 2-1, with Mark Smith and Ben Higgins eclipsing Will Westall's strike for the home side. If they can overcome Ardington and Grove Rangers in midweek fixtures it sets up a dramatic final game against Drayton for the Championship.

In Division 2, Champions Steventon completed their fixtures with a 1-1 draw at Kintbury Rangers Reserves, for whom Richard Guy scored, while a single Jim Oliver goal gave Benson AFC a 1-0 success at home to Buckland.

Appleton (Abingdon) shared the points in a 4-4 draw with Shrivenham A. Marc Pugh, Chris Hanson, Lee James and Matty Wood scored for 'Shrivvy'.

In Division Four, Blewbury Reserves have given themselves a great chance of stealing the runners-up spot from Marcham Reserves, after a 5-1 win over Coleshill Reserves.

Goals from Robert Crook, Gary Welch and Nick Guiry were not enough for Stanford-in-the-Vale Reserves to clinch the runners-up place as they went down 4-3 to Sutton Courtenay Reserves in Division Five.
