KEBABS are still on the menu for fast-food diners in Malmesbury despite claims from a councillor that the takeaway at 41 Triangle attracts rowdy drunks and rats.

North Wiltshire District Council's development control committee agreed on Wednesday last week that a condition allowing only pizza and pasta to be cooked on the premises could be amended to include kebabs.

But Coun Patrick Goldstone said the takeaway was a blot on the landscape.

"It is responsible for more litter than you can imagine," he said.

"It is a source of constant irritation to the neighbours and I hope the observations in the report have been passed on to the relevant officers so action can be taken.

"The closing time is not adhered to and there is litter and vermin."

The environmental health department agreed the new ventilation system was adequate to cope with the kebab cooker at the front of the shop and had not caused any complaints about noise or smell.

But seven letters of objection were sent in by residents, who complained about traffic and parking problems, noise, garish signs and litter.
