THE former North Wilts Youth Cricket League has expanded to become the Wiltshire Youth Cricket League following the admission of Devizes and South Wilts for the 2005 season.

The U11 and U13 Leagues have been split into Red and Blue Divisions with the divisional winners having a play off at the end of the season to determine overall league winners.

The U15 League still consists of a single division. WiltSports Cricket Supplies are sponsoring all the leagues.

U11 Red Division

NEWCOMERS South Wilts got off to a winning start as they overcame visitors Cannings by ten wickets.

Cannings were restricted to just 37-5 in their 20 overs as Marc Burton led the South Wilts attack, taking 3-3 in his four overs.

Only Toby Baker managed to reach double figures for Cannings. Jamie Smith (16no) and Luke Philpotts (15no) then shared an unbroken opening partnership to see the home side to victory in the tenth over (South Wilts 12 points, Cannings 0 points).

The match between Chippenham and Calne was lost to the weather.

U11 Blue Division

THE match between Purton and Malmesbury was rained off.

U15 Division

SOUTH Wilts get off to a winning start with a comprehensive 198-run victory at home to Purton.

Tom Pearce (54) and James Glover (29) provided an excellent start to the South Wilts innings and useful contributions from Dan Sycklemore (20), Jamie Crarer (26) and Tom Boatwright (16no) took them to an imposing 226-8 in their 45 overs.

Ian Hazell (2-25) was the leading Purton bowler.

In reply, Purton struggled against very accurate South Wilts bowling. Baz Street, who started with eight successive maidens and finished with 3-4 in 8.5 overs, Tom Pearce (2-0 in five overs), Rob Pittman (2-1 in four overs) and Jamie Bennett (1-2 in four overs) bowled Purton out for just 28 in 29 overs (South Wilts 24 points, Purton 4 points).

Reigning champions Chippenham also had an emphatic victory as they beat visitors Wootton Bassett by ten wickets. Batting first Bassett were undone by the bowling of Marcus Brown (3-5 in five overs) and Liam Dawson (3-3 in three overs).

Two run outs didn't help their cause as they were dismissed in just 14 overs for 26.

Dawson and James Vince then took Chippenham to a ten-wicket victory in just five overs (Chippenham 24 points, Wootton Bassett 0 points).

An outstanding spell of bowling from James Moore took Devizes to a 47-run victory at home to Westbury.

Batting first, Devizes were bowled out for 149 with the major contributions coming from Ed Luke (39) and Alex Cox (26).

Jack Gentle (4-29) and Medhi Ibrahim (3-42) were the pick of the Westbury bowlers.

Tom White (19) and Sam Greener (20) helped Westbury get off to a reasonable start but then Moore ripped through the batting as he took 6-16 in just six overs.

Ed Luke also bowled tidily (2-16 in eight overs) as Westbury were dismissed for 102 (Devizes 18 points, Westbury 7 points).
