CORSHAM Town leapfrogged local rivals Frome into second place on Tuesday night at a rain soaked Badgers Hill.

Even a hotly disputed goal did not stop Corsham from overtaking the hosts thanks, to a cracking John Eldridge shot.

Corsham manager Colin Bush was delighted with the performance of his side.

Bush also praised the referee and the Frome ground staff for getting the game on: "Fair play to the ref. He waited and waited and put the kick off back until 8pm.

"On a normal day it would have probably been called off but with our fixture pile up it was good we managed to play."

Shortly after a penalty appeal, when Eldridge was tripped by Frome keeper Paul Thompson, Corsham took the lead.

Striker Tony Colbourne took control of the ball before squaring to fellow frontman Alan Griffin on the edge of the box who then thumped the ball home into the left side of the goal on 20 minutes.

Soon after, Griffin broke into the right hand side of the box but missed his shot when he could have repaid the compliment.

Before half-time Frome scored after their striker punched the ball into the net after a goalmouth scramble.

Furious protests by Craig Chaplin and Nigel Curtis saw both players receive yellow cards.

But Eldridge then sealed the points with a stunning shot from 30 yards out in the second half.

Thompson cleared to the halfway line but the Corsham midfielder took hold of the ball, darted 15-yards inside the Frome half and smashed over the flailing keeper with a diagonal shot into the top right corner.

Bush said: "We were very vibrant and created chances.

"Griffin's movement was good and he and Toby said, when they play together, they are a force.

"Tyler and Curtis played well at the back and they allowed us to push on."
