Jamie-Paul Withers tried to hide weapons Picture Ref: 76207-167A MAN carrying two samurai swords down his trousers tried to get back into a nightclub after being thrown out.

Jamie-Paul Withers, 23, of May Close, Gorse Hill, was yesterday given a six month community rehabilitation order for having the weapons in public.

Swindon Magistrates' Court heard how Withers, who works for a construction company, had been thrown out of the Vision Club, in Cricklade Road, on Christmas Eve last year.

Withers had been involved in an argument after he saw his girlfriend chatting with another man.

Richard Thomas, prosecuting, told the court that Withers had returned with the swords down his trousers.

When stopped by security guards, he told them he was a black belt in jujitsu.

Mr Thomas said: "He was clearly after someone inside the club."

But Mike Pulsford, defending, said Withers had been depressed, as it was the anniversary of the death of a family member.

He said: "His mind was befuddled by drink and depression.

"He was very depressed and upset. He still doesn't really understand why he collected the swords and walked back to the club.

"He realises he needs to control his emotions when he gets into a situation of disagreement."

The court heard how following the incident Withers had taken it upon himself to join a 12-week anger management group.

Asked if he had anything to tell the court, he said: "I was stupid enough to do it and I will face the consequences."

Handing him the six-month community rehabili-tation order, chairman of the bench Peter Simpson said: "Let us hope that the order not only serves to punish you but to help with problems you have."

Withers must also pay £40 costs by Friday and the court ordered the destruction of the swords.
