A GROUP of school students has been getting a taste for business.

Thirty Year 10 GCSE German students from Kingsdown School in Stratton spent the day at Intel and spoke only in German.

They had the opportunity to use German in a business environment, spending the day taking part in the work simulation at the Old Town company.

The students, aged 14 and 15, worked in groups, promoting and publicising their products to a group of German visitors, comprising staff from Kingsdown School and Intel.

James Turney, the Head of German at the school, used to work at Intel. He thinks it is important for children to use what they learn in the classroom in a real environment.

He said: "We were delighted to be able to come to Intel and show our students the advantages of a foreign language

It also gave them a taste of life in the world of work."

The school chose Intel because it is a global company and a the company's staff speak many different languages.

Mr Turney said: "The youngsters clearly enjoyed the day at Intel.

"They used laptops, email and giving business presentations in a large conference room to a group of Intel employees.

"The student feedback was really positive.

"They enjoyed speaking to German people."

Today 30 students were due to go to Intel to spend the day speaking French.
