BROUGHTON Gifford made it third time lucky as they beat Rudloe 2-0 at Chippenham Town on Wednesday night to lift the Fox Leisure and Sportswear UK Ltd-sponsored Knockout Cup.
The Division One champions had already played two cup finals in the last fortnight, losing to Seend United in the A and B Cup and then coming off second best when they lost 2-1 to Castle Combe in the Wiltshire Junior Cup.
Broughton kicked off playing down the slope and soon had Rudloe defending desperately. A slip by a Rudloe defender in the 10th minute allowed Chris Styles to volley home Broughton's opening goal, and a minute later more poor defending saw Rudloe keeper Dale Townsend stranded, giving Styles a simple tap in to double the lead.
After some fine saves by Kevin Challice in the Broughton goal, Rudloe nearly scored on the half hour when Gifford cleared off the line in a goalmouith scramble, and both Jason Gray and Simon Walsh were unlucky not to score.
In the second half both sets of forwards missed good opportunities and there were goal line clearances at both ends.
The match ended on a sour note when a late tackle sparked a brawl and a player from each team was sent off.
The cup and trophies were presented by Debbie Fox, of Fox Leisure & Sportswear UK Ltd, and the man of the match award went to Richard Clark of Broughton Gifford.
