CHIPPENHAM 2nd team captain David Williams announced his retirement from senior rugby after leading his team to victory in their final game.
Cooper-Avon took a 6-0 lead with two penalties, but Chippenham hit back with club veteran Chris Mooney going over from a well-drilled line-out routine.
In the second half Melksham took advantage of a Chippenham error and slotted over another penalty to extend their lead to 9-5, but an outstanding try from second team stalwart Dan Reynolds snatched victory from Melksham.
Williams said: "I have been associated with Chippenham Rugby Football Club since 1987 and this season has by far been the most rewarding. Under my captaincy, and a lot of help from more senior players in the squad, the boys have made it to two County Cup finals and we have won the 2nd Team Merit Table title. I could not have picked a better season to finish my playing career on.
I shall continue my role as assistant coach to our colts under 18s development squad - of which I have been a part of for the last two years."
