PUPILS of Ridgeway School are entering a national competition to design healthy school dinners.

On the back of Jamie Oliver's campaign for healthier school dinners, the pupils will be entering the Hotpoint Schools Cooking Challenge.

They will be asked to design a range of healthy meals and the most successful pupil will be asked to take part in a live cook off event against pupils from other schools.

When designing the meals, the pupils will be asked to take into account factors such as nutritional value, health and safety and hygiene.

All students taking part in the challenge will receive a certificate to reward their participation.

Kerry Camm is the food technology teacher at Ridgeway who will be supervising the pupils' work.

She said: "We are pleased to be involved in such an exciting project and have been overwhelmed by the commitment from our pupils.

"We hope that one of our pupils is selected for the live cook-off event and we will do all that we can to support them in this challenge."

The pupils will also be designing the healthy meals as part of their GCSE design technology course work.
