Pupils from St Joseph’s RC Primary School in Devizes took the prize at the Rotary Club’s annual Youth Speaks competition held at Nursteed Community School.
Sadly, though, because of a breakdown in communications, only two teams turned up – the other one coming from Wansdyke Primary School.
Nevertheless, the standard of debate was excellent and the adjudicators were torn between St Joseph’s, with their subject Video Games Aren’t All Bad, and the team from Wansdyke Primary School who debated the pros and cons of the 2012 Olympics.
In the end, however, the St Joseph’s team of Atlanta Hatch, Emily Nelson, Tom Burholt and Matthew Hamill just shaded it over Wansdyke’s Ellie Campbell, Sarah Hogan, Alice Gale, Sam Warren and Chrissy Thomas.
All contestants received certificates from club president Ray Glasscoo.
