The plans for the proposed care village and Primary Care Centre at land next to Quakers Walk, Devizes, will be on display tomorrow.

A public exhibition is being held at Devizes Town Hall from 3pm to 7pm.

The care village is proposed by Bristol-based charity the St Monica Trust which would lease land to Devizes GPs for a Primary Care Centre, which had been planned to be built at Green Lane.

The announcement by NHS Wiltshire last week that the Green Lane site had been abandoned in favour of Quakers Walk was met with anger by campaigners for Quakers Walk, particularly as Quakers Walk achieved only ten per cent support in a public survey of possible sites for a Primary Care Centre carried out last year.

Jeff James, chief executive of NHS Wiltshire said: “Many factors have changed since we carried out the survey. There were public reservations about the development of the Quakers Walk site in general and specifically about access to the site.

“Now that access has been improved by the construction of the new road it makes sense for us to consider health services in a convenient location near the town centre.”

Chairman of Devizes Health and Social Care Forum councillor Paula Winchcombe said: “For many years the aspiration locally has been to have a health campus on the Green Lane site. The opening recently of the UKSH Treatment Centre on that site appeared to endorse this.

“Devizes residents will need to be assured that the GP led project is still deliverable.”
