After 25 years in Chippenham wheel manufacturing company Dymag Racing is to close on Friday, with around 20 people losing their jobs.

The company, based in Bumpers Farm, went into administration just over a month ago, and although a buyer was found the deal fell through, and staff were told last Wednesday they had just a week left in work.

General manager Steve Turner said: "We were called in and told that as of Friday we will have to close the whole place.

"There are about 18 of us left here and we will all be out of a job from Friday, even though we are still working flat out this week.

"There are some key members who will give it their all this week to please what customers we have left, but some are taking the negative side of things, thinking why should they work when they will be out of a job."

Dymag Racing designed and produced the world's first magnesium motorcycle racing wheels, and also produces carbon fibre wheels.

It moved to Bumpers Farm in 1984, and was one of the first businesses to start trading from the industrial estate.

Mr Turner said: "It is sad news after have been here for so long.

"The previous chairman has purchased the carbon fibre side of things and that will be shipped off to Austria.

"I think two people have had offers to move there, but I don't think anyone would want to go.

"We are probably the only company in the country doing this sort of production so it will be difficult to find a job in a similar field.

"A lot of us have been here for many years and I don't think it will hit any of us until Monday that we are actually out of work."

On Friday members of staff will have a farewell meal at Revolutions.
